BattlestarGalactica是随七十年代星球大战的电影热潮而制成的科幻电视剧，虽然其曾经制作过电影版本，但最后因为粗制滥造而导致整个系列失败收场。经过三十年后的今天，BattlestarGalactica已算是一套经典的科幻影片，故于2003年由美国的科幻电视台SCIFIChannel拍板重新制作长达三小时的迷你电视剧，相较起旧有版本，这次已引入很多先进的计算机技术，务求令观众耳目一新。基本上，新旧版本的剧本变化不大，有所分别的则是剧中的数个人物转了性别；此外，所有的机械设定，例如人类所用的战机、战舰，又或是机械人Cylons的设计已经经过现代化，不会有追不上潮流的感觉。而这次的新版本因为得到众多观众好评，故SCIFIChannel在近期宣布重拍这套电视剧，希望能够继续延续这个科幻经典传奇。故事背景于未来...

為迎接機動戰士鋼彈SEED十周年的2012年，官方於2011年8月26日啟動「HDRemasterProject（高畫質再製企劃）」，畫面尺寸比將從原先的4：3升級為16：9寬螢幕，線性PCM音源化，部分音樂採用混音版，局部畫面的替換和修正，各特效與背景的處理變更，並整合特別版三部作以及「DESTINY」的賽璐珞片，再編輯為全48話，收錄至Blu-ray共四卷BOX販售。相較於過去其他鋼彈作品的Remaster僅是單純的高畫質化，本作有著更全面的提升。「機動戰士鋼彈SEEDHD」於2011年12月23日起在BandaiChannel針對日本國內進行限定放送，TV方面則於2012年1月1日起在日本BS11播映。gundam.info同時提供附有簡體中文(已不再提供)、繁體中文、英文和韓文字幕影片的網路配信。愛奇藝將本作命名為「機動戰士高達SEEDHDRemaster」於2011年12月23日11時起播出。
